Small, Fast, Decent Compact
It's another one of these questions I'm afraid. My mum has mentioned she'd like a new camera and as her birthday is coming up, I thought I'd aim for that as a gift.
The requirements are: 1. Small 2. Responsive (ie not long lags between shutter being pressed and focusing and actually taking pic) 3. Up to £300 4. Has a nice big screen for viewing 5. Good all rounder in terms of day and night shooting I looked at the link provided in an earlier post and the Panasonic Lumix TZ7 looks nice, but as that article is now a couple of months old, I wondered if anything had come out since which betters it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated Thanks |
I Have a Canon S90 for sale which you might like. It's hardly been used, just a couple of times I think so condition is like new. It fulfils all the criteria you set, plus gives great image quality. The lens is one of the fastest in the compact market at f/2,(twice as much light gets in as an f/2.8).
There's a review here It'll be going on Ebay at the weekend but if anyone fancies it before, it's £275 (and I'll even throw in the P & P ! |
Thanks for the offer. If this was for me, I'd consider 2nd hand, but as it's a special gift, I wouldn't do 2nd hand I'm afraid.

Panasonic TZ-7 or LX3 (which is a Leica with a Panasonic badge on it and half the price).
Alas there are no compacts that meet your requirements. Believe me, I've been looking. |
The Canon S90, Panasonic TZ7 are both fabulous cameras but probably cost over £300 brand new.

Panasonic TZ6. Same as the TZ7 without HD video.

Hi,
I'm a little late to the party on this thread, but all the same.... I recently bought a Canon S90. Not cheap by any means, but I'm mighty pleased with it. It's first outing was a trip to Mumbai and Kerala as a 'backup' carry around camera. I was thoroughly impressed with the output. If you're lucky you'll be able to get one (probably 2nd hand) for a tad under £300. Quite a few for the snaps in my quick-gallery here were taken with it if your interest.
