Remote Release

Hi everyone, I read the review on remote releases in the latest mag issue and I am none the wiser.I am torn between the cable and cordless!
Would anybody like to share their experiences and recommend one?

Seasons greetings to all!!

I've not seen the review so I can't comment on it but I will say that it depends on how a wireless one works with your camera. I've seen third party ones which have a receiver that sits on the hot shoe and plugs into one of the camera ports.
I use a proprietary wired one myself as they're cheap (mine was £10).

What models and for what camera?

Like Chris I also haven't seen the review but I do use one of these on my Canon 40D http://www.eos-magazine.com/EOS%20Collection/Sales/camera%20accessories/hahnelwirelesspr.html

Well all I can say is that I've had mine for just over a year now, fired off approx 1000 or so images with it, give or take a few, and haven't experienced a single misfire with it if that's the correct expression to use. :D

My camera is a Canon 450D and I am thinking of wireless, any make that is recommended.

When I had a 400D I purchased an IF remote made by Canon from e-bay for around £12.
It was handy in that it attached to the camera strap and could be unclipped in a second for use.
The sensor on the 400D was at the front of the camera so I could set the timer for 2 or 10 seconds and fire the remote with time to get out of the way if I did not wish to be in the picture.
To be honest I wish my current camera had the same facility !

I've got a seculine one. It is wired and wireless (I can unplug it and plug in an IR receiver if I want to go wireless). Most of the time I use it in wired mode.

I've used one of these cheapo's off ebay on my 400D for about three years. HERE
I've never had a failure and the batteries still don't need replacing. The specs say its working range is 10-15 metres but I've used it at 25 metres with no problems so It's great for wildlife shots from a distance.
If you do decide on one of these, remember to peel the almost invisible plastic seal off the CR2 battery in the receiver.
I thought mine was knackered untill I worked this out :o

I also use this remote for my 5D, 30D and now my 7D, great piece of kit. I bought mine direct from LinkDelight, but they now sell an updated model for £14.
