DPP Help please
Hi
Looking for help re DPP, every time I try to use DPP I get a message saying DPP viewer.ex is not working and will now close. Have reinstalled, but still the same. Thanks Jeff the fiestyfox. |
Hi Jeff
Welcome to the forums. What OS are you using? I' don't know anything about DPP specifically but I've had a google around and the first thing I came across mentioned DPP not getting on with Elements. Are you running any other programs at the same time? Other "fixes" (and I use the term loosely) that I've seen suggested include removing all the .dll files from the DPP folders and then using the DPP CD to repair the program. Your other option is to use system restore (if you're using Windows ME or later) and go back a week or 2 and see if that helps |
Hi Chris
Thanks for posting, I use Elements 6, on a PC with XP, have tried system restore and re installing with no joy. I am told that DPP is better than Elements for processing raw files, dont know if that is true or not, but would like to find out. Will try Canon to see if there are any downloadable fixs. Thanks again Jeff. |
Canon will have newer versions of DPP, if yours is not the most recent. I cannot help with the problem, I have it on my Mac. DPP is pretty good at processing RAW files compared to ACR in Elements.

I run DPP from time to time just for comparison purposes with Lightroom and haven't experienced any issues with it (version 3.7.2) so your question intrigued me somewhat. It must also be said that I haven't got Elements installed and like Chris has already mentioned, this does seem to cause problems with some users.
One other possible cause given is that Elements is somehow messing up the Makers Notes in the file although this appears to be limited to jpegs that have had some editing done to them e.g. cropping. How do you usually import images onto your computer - does Elements do the import? To try and confirm that Elements is in fact the cause you might like to consider shooting a couple of test images and use Windows Explorer to copy/paste them into a temporary folder directly from the card. Shoot a couple of straight RAWs and a couple of straight jpegs but NOT RAW plus jpeg if your camera allows for this. Once that's done have another go with DPP. If the problem still persists with freshly shot images you might like to try uninstalling DPP, restart the computer, download and run a very good FREE registry cleaner such as CCleaner, restart the computer again and reinstall DPP from the CD. If the version isn't 3.7.2 go to the Canon website and update DPP prior to using it. Don't forget to shut down any virus scanning application you may have on your computer prior to install. |
Hello fiesty fox, I use dpp and elements 6 and they don't clash at all, my first question is what OS is your computer, windows XP, Vista or earlier, I went from Xp to Vista with no problems at all.
Once I know what OS your running I can look more into it. |

Hello Fiesty Fox,
Did your DPP come with your camera? if yes ask Canon for a new copy and try uploading that see what happens. |
