Canon 70-300 with tubes

I can find the closest focus distance with the 70-300 L - not the DO version (about 1.2 metres) from the spec, but I cannot find any info about what that distance would be with either a 12 or 25mm extender.

I have a 12mm extender (which I use with the 100 macro), but dont yet own the 70-300, so cant test.

Anybody know where to find this info?

Think you have posted this in the wrong thread. Can a moderator move it to the right one?

Apologies

Sorry, I posted ij 'Macro' since that is what I was attempting to achieve, ie a close up image (using extension tubes). Why not use a macro lens? yes well I have the Canon 100 macro, but when the flower you are trying to capture is at the back of a flower bed that you will be shot if you trample on, you dont try to use the 100.

Clive Nichols (world famous plant and garden photographer) shoots some of his images this way (but he uses the Canon 100-400, so I cant ask him directly).

The first linked document from this page might contain the information you need to work out the minimum focus distance. This review contains some details on the magnification of the 70-300 with & without tubes. Maybe those figures can be fed into the formulae in Riccardo Polini's document.

Good luck!
Chris
