Hello
Hi I am Geoff I could not see were to introduce myself to the forum, Sorry if this is the wrong
place, After nearly 20 years away from photography I have come back after a nasty accident a few years ago with an electric saw as a result I lost my left hand and part of my arm, So when a friend came along and said he was going of to a local nature reserve to get some pics I went of to our local camera shop that is Cambrian in Colwyn bay There I found a Canon 350d I noticed all the controls were on the right side of the camera, anyway I bought it , since then my wife bought me a canon 1100d , I am getting a feal for both of the camera's now but they are a long way of were I started 20 years ago with a couple of Zenith's and 4 lenses hence why I have joined this forum I am hoping to learn about getting the best from them. I tend to go on a bit Sorry. Geoff Hi all |
Hi Geoff and welcome.
Glad you're getting back into photography. Enjoy the forums. |
Thanks I am hoping to learn a lot from using this forum 20 years ago there was nothing like this it is great to see so many people on here sharing there knowledge and ideas, I have just been given Photoshop 7 have not got a clue on how to use it so I am looking to learn more on that to.
Thanks Geoff |
It is a good place to learn.
With regards to photoshop the web is a great place to learn. Loads of tutorials and videos online. |
I have had a go at editing some photo's with photo shop 7 but not really got there with
it I wanted to edit a pic of my rotti around it eyes as it has a bad one I just really wanted to tidy it up but I could not get the clone tool to work, also it had a cats hair stuck on its head I wanted to cover that up aswel, so as you can see I don't no to much. I have had a look at a lot of software but it is well out of my means so I will have to learn to use what I have, How good is photo shop 7 ? can I add to it any were I have tried the update method that did not work, Also how does Gimp compare ? I'm going on a bit now sorry about that I don't get out much as well as having no left hand I am stuck in a wheel chair. Geoff |
I'm afraid I'm not the best person to offer advice on photoshop. I'm a novice and still learning. And ive never used 7, I have 9 so it should be good.
Having a dog must keep you busy, and photography should get you out and about a bit. I watched a documentary on TV the other day about a photographer working in Afghanistan. He lost both legs and an arm after stepping on an IED. The programme followed his rehabilitation and he went back to Afghanistan to finish his work. Inspirational stuff. |
Yes I watched that my self that guy is truly amazing I am still at the stage really of getting my confidence back every time I seem to be getting there and then there's a nock back I used to have plenty, I have been a coach driver for many years until I lost my hand in a freak accident with a saw then not long after I got diagnosed with a chest disease that has left me most of the time going around in a chair I used to love going out for long walks,
many years ago I had a few of my pic's that I took with my old zenith that were published in some of the masg's When I decided to by the 350d I could not believe the change's It's a whole new ball game now not sure if my old head will be able to take it all in, but I think it's worth ago as I used to get so much out of it. |
Welcome to the forums. No one here bites, so you are ok.

Thanks I am hoping to learn a lot from the members of this group as I said before the camera's are a lot different to what I have used before, The 350d is a great little camera although old now the 1100d is also a great camera, once I get a little more involved I would like to get a full frame camera. I have recently got a good set of filters of ebay they cokin ones so I think they are the same as I used 20 odd years ago so great to have them I remember getting some great visual efects using them.
