Camera stopped working! HELP!!
Hi,
Wondering if anyone on here can help... I've got a Konica Minolta 5D, and don't particularly want to buy another one! The Camera has had the same 1GB compact flash card in it since i purchased it a few years ago. Suddenly the camera said "Cannot use card" when i went to use it a few days ago. I've tried formatting the card on the camera and the card seems to work fine in another camera... Anyone got any suggestions?! I really can't afford a new camera at the mo. Thanks, Rob |
Hi Bob, welcome to the forums
Have you re-formatted the card using a PC? Also, have you tried a different CF card in your 5d? |
Hi Bob, welcome to the forums
Have you re-formatted the card using a PC? Also, have you tried a different CF card in your 5d?
Thanks Chris (I was on the Digi camera forums a while ago, first time i've ventured photoradar) I tried formatting it on the PC as FAT32, and also tried another card (though, it was a big 8GB card not sure if it would accept a card that large). No luck... It seems such a small problem that shouldn't mean binning the camera! |
If you have formatted the card on the PC chances are that it won't work in the camera as it uses a different file format. Put it into the camera and format it there and see if it will let you use it then.
If it won't allow you to format it then it might be an idea to try a different 1 or 2GB card. Never format them on the PC as that can cause some real problems especially on older cameras. |
Formatting the card on the PC removes the FAT system which can get corrupted. Formatting on the camera won't do this. If you format on a PC, you will have to re-format when you put the card into the camera but there is no reason why it should damage the camera.

I would be willing to bet it won't accept an 8Gb card even when it was new - can you get a smaller one to try? Its only relatively recently that cameras have been able to accept cards that big.

You can format in a PC but it must be FAT 16 as the software in that camera can't handle Fat 32. Use a low level format rather than the quick format and try again in the camera. :D
you can't use a 8gb card in that camera, as it only supports Fat 16 and a 8gb card is fat 32. Also, it's possible that that camera can only handle cards upto 1gb. |
Thanks for the help people!
Will start again, format it on the PC (not a quick format) at FAT 16 and then again in the camera... Fingers crossed! THanks again |
I've tried again, formatting on the PC FAT (default) 16 and then on the camera and... Error.
Any other ideas??? Pleeeease??? |
Have you tried a different 1GB card?
