Mirror Lock-up

I am wondering if anyone has tried to use MIRROR LOCK-UP all the time, during a day trip. And if so, what were your results and were you doing hand held.

Mirror lock up is no use handheld. It is only useful on a tripod.

I think you'd be wasting your time using Mirror lock up (in the conventional sense, at least) handheld.

Wouldn't that just be the same as shooting from the hip, not using LCD or viewfinder since neither are available in Mup (Mirror Lockup).

If you did do this, would it make you a Mup'pet?

Hi mikedidi1946

I have to ask , why do you want to know . Have you been told it has some kind of advantage or is it something you have tried .

Anyone shooting in 'Live View' is using MLU.

Not quite. Some Nikon Live View modes flip the mirror down & then back up again to take a shot.

I did read on talkphography forum that using live view to take a shot uses 3 shutter actuations which was something I had never thought about

Why 3 shutter actuations? Surely the shutter just opens and then closes (2 actuations) whether looking through the viewfinder or when using Live View.

Live view uses the the sensor to display on screen =1
take the shot (some cameras drop the mirror to take the shot) =2
then back to live view =3
