Hi Mark great image I dont know know this bird is it indigenous to the U K. We just got home from a six week camping trip in the Kalahari and Namibia will post some images in a day or two

Hi Jimfish , thanks for the comments .

From what I've read the Hooded Merganser is a North American resident but there are small pockets of them in Europe ( UK included ) but they are put down to escapees from places like Pensthorpe Nature Reserve .
