Creative photo ideas for July: 06 Shoot a Great Gatsby style portrait
Good news for Great Gatsby fans – you don’t need Baz Luhrmann’s budget to recreate the sun-kissed portraiture style that made the movie such a visual treat.
“I created the set that produced these portraits in a space smaller than the average bedroom,” says Alexandria Huff.
“Holiday lights are attached to the wall and a translucent shower curtain put in front.
“Behind the curtain, I placed a Litepanels Flood LED light and aimed it over the shoulders of my models.
“I filtered this panel with a full CTO gel. For my fill light, I placed a Litepanels Spot LED light below my model at the opposite side of my key light. I filtered this with a 1⁄2 CTO gel.
“For my key light, I placed the Kino Flo Celeb 200 DMX LED above and pointed down on my models.”

* Although Alex used a rare Canon 50mm f/1 lens, any fast mid-length prime lens will do.
* Alex used ISO 100, 1/125 sec shutter and f/1 aperture, but don’t be afraid to experiment.
* A gel was used with the LED light here, but some continuous lights allow you to change the temperatures.
