Best portable flash kit: 05 Elinchrom Ranger Quadra Hybrid One Head

Best portable flash kit: 05 Elinchrom Ranger Quadra Hybrid One Head

    Price: £1150, $1830
The Quadra Hybrid power pack has two outputs, rated at 400Ws and 200Ws, although the kit comes with a single flash head.

Two options of head are available, either A-type or S-type (Action or Standard). Bonus features include Elinchrom’s ‘Skyport’ RF (Radio Frequency) wireless triggering, complete with a hotshoe-mounting transmitter.

The lead gel battery pack only takes about two hours to charge, the downside being that it has relatively limited capacity – enough for just 150 full-power flashes.

In our standard test using a brolly at two metres, the power range enabled apertures between f/4.5 and f/20.

    Verdict
Pros… Excellent build quality, smart controls and wireless RF.
Cons… The battery has a relatively limited life.
We say… Very good overall, but the battery life is disappointing.

    Score: 4/5
