    Portrait editing: re-colour eyes

It’s one of the more extreme adjustments that you’re likely to make to a portrait, but altering eye colour can really bring the image to life, and it’s incredibly easy to do using a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer.

After creating the layer, (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Hue/Saturation), move the Hue slider to find the colour that you want. The whole image will change colour.

With the Adjustment Layer still selected in the Layers Panel, invert the Layer Mask – and turn its box in the Layers Panel black – by pressing Cmd/Ctrl+I.

The image will revert to its original colour, but with the Brush tool set to white, you can paint over the eye to reveal the new colour of the iris.
