    Professional photo editing techniques for getting perfect skies: step 16

    16 Select the post
    Click the Create New Layer icon in the Layers panel, then grab the Polygonal Lasso tool. Next, make a selection that covers the post on the left. Switch to the Patch tool and set Patch to Content-Aware (CS6 and above) and Adaptation to Medium. Tick Sample All Layers.

    17 Remove distracting objects
    Drag the selected area to the right to remove the post. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect. Use the Patch tool to remove the other posts in the same way, and any other distracting objects. Next, make another layer, switch to the Clone tool and set Sample to All Layers in the tool options.

    18 Clone to tidy up
    Hold Alt to sample a clean source, then clone to tidy up any dodgy patches. Remove the shadows and reflections as well as the posts, varying your source point often. Finally, add a Colour Balance adjustment layer and set Cyan/Red to -20 and Yellow/Blue to +5 to cool the image.
