    04 Boost contrast
To get a good selection, we need a precise separation between the land and sky, so that one area is completely black, and the other is completely white. Begin by boosting contrast. Go to Image>Adjustments>Levels and drag the black and white point sliders to 124 and 235 respectively. Click OK.

    05 Roughly fill the land
Grab the Polygonal Lasso tool from the toolbar, and click points to make an angular selection inside the land and water. Aim to get close to the skyline, but don’t worry about being too precise. Click on the first point to close the selection then go to Edit>Fill. Choose Use: Black and click OK.

    06 Set up the Brush
Press Ctrl/Cmd+D to deselect, then grab the Brush tool. We can paint along the edges with black or white to get a precise line – but before we start, there’s a nifty trick that will make the job much easier. Go to the Mode dropdown in the tool options at the top and choose Overlay.
