09 Go with the grain
Photographers usually try to eliminate grain, so you’ll enjoy this! Holga prints tend to be grainier than digital prints, so create a new layer and call it Grain. Go to Edit>FillLayer. In the Fill Layer window go to the Contents drop-down menu and choose Use: 50% Grey. Click OK to fill the entire layer with grey pixels, giving it a purposely unsophisticated look.

10 Make some noise
To add picture grain-style noise to the grey layer go to Filter>Noise>AddNoise. Set the Noise Amount to 20%, select the Gaussian option, tick the Monochromatic box and click OK. To make the crisp digital noise look more like clumps of film grain, go to Filter>Blur>BlurMore.

11 Blend it
To give the picture a nostalgic and more convincing feel, mix the grain with the main image. To achieve this go to the Layers palette and set the Blending Mode of the Grain layer to Overlay. This causes the Grain layer’s lighter pixels to become transparent and blends the darker clumps of grey with the colours from the original photo.

12 Tint it
One distinctive feature of a Holga camera is its ability to tint the flash using a variety of coloured gels. This can add a wash of colour to your shot. You can mimic this effect by creating a new layer and labelling it Tint. Now go to Filter>FillLayer. Choose Colour from the Contents drop-down menu, select a warm yellow colour and then click OK.
