The Canon EOS 70D body is made of aluminium and polycarbonate resin, with a body-only weight of 755g.

The Nikon D7100 meanwhile uses a polycarbonate chassis with magnesium alloy top and rear covers and weighs 765g.

Both offer environmental sealing against dust and moisture, but neither is built to the standard of the companies’ professional models.

Canon EOS 70D vs Nikon D7100 Comparison: 09 LENSES

The Canon EOS 70D can use Canon’s STM (stepping motor) lenses to minimise focus noise when filming video. It can also use full-frame EF lenses, though full-frame EOS cameras can’t use the smaller-format EF-S lenses.

The Nikon D7100 uses Nikon DX (APS-C) lenses and FX (full-frame) lenses. Nikon’s DX lenses can, however, be used on its full-frame cameras in DX ‘crop’ mode if you upgrade bodies later.

Both cameras are available in body only form or with bundled kit lenses.
