Creative photo ideas for July: 05 Shoot toys as travel props
Looking to add a twist to your travel shots? Plan ahead and pack some things for foreground interest. Swiss photographer Kim Leuenberger has been doing that for the past couple of years as part of her ‘Travelling Cars Adventures’ project.
“I always take one of my cars with me,” she says. “They are of all different types and sizes.
“This shot was taken in Spain. The yellow van was brand new – and not rusty enough – so I decided to put it in the sea. I played for more than two hours with that car, trying many different background and actions.
“I take my pictures from very low on the ground and use the widest aperture I can – often around f/2. So if I want the focus to be perfect, I have to work with Live View and lie on the ground!”

* Ditch the tripod – use wide apertures and increase the ISO for sharp pictures.
* Use Live View’s magnification feature for accurate manual focusing.
