Creative photo ideas for July: 03 Shoot dew covered bugs
How about trying to capture dew droplets in high definition? French photographer David Chambon’s crisp images of dragonflies and bugs covered in moisture show what can be achieved using some basic kit, and getting up early in search of a still dawn.
“Wind is the enemy of macro photographers, so if there’s too much of it I don’t tend to go out,” says David. “The important thing is to get out early in the morning to enjoy the beautiful light.”
David uses a tripod and slow shutter speeds: “In the cool of the early morning, and covered in dew, bugs tend to be stationary. Many of my pictures are taken with an exposure time of more than two seconds, and they’re perfectly sharp.
Of course, this is greatly helped by firing the shutter with a remote release and then locking the camera’s mirror up in order to reduce vibrations.”
