Photoshop CC Key Features: 7. Smart Object Liquify

The Liquify filter was always destructive: once applied, the effect was burned into the layer.

With CS6.1 (released only to Creative Cloud members), and in Photoshop CC, you can apply the Liquify filter to Smart Objects.

This means that after you apply the filter, you can reopen its dialog and carry on working from where you left off: tools such as Reconstruct will still work, selectively reverting the image to its original state.

This makes Liquify much more useable, as you always have the opportunity to change your mind later.

When using the Liquify filter it’s not uncommon to find hard, sharp lines developing between smeared areas.

Now Liquify has a new tool, the Smooth Tool, which rectifies these problems by blurring them away.
