    Raw Processing Tips: 06 Contrast and Clarity

    While Contrast affects the overall contrast of the scene, Clarity alters contrast in midtones.

    An increase in Clarity can emphasise detail, but push it too far and the image becomes over-cooked.

    A decrease produces a softening effect which can work wonders on skin when applied selectively.

    Here we’ve set Contrast +5 for extra punch, then Clarity +22 to emphasise the detail in the landscape.

    If you like a particular combination of settings it’s worth saving it as a preset in the Preset Panel so you can quickly apply it to other images.
