    Using patterns for balanced pictures

    When patterns become the subject, it’s important to look for balance in the frame.

    Work hard to fill all four corners of the picture. Imagine there was a patch of earth showing through in a corner of this macro – it would feel unbalanced.

    Zoom in tight with your lens and don’t be afraid to ‘garden’ a still life shot such as this to get the best composition.
