15 common photo printer problems and DIY solutions
Troubleshooting common photo printer problems
01 White lines in certain areas
This type of banding running across the image would point towards the fact that a single nozzle is misfiring.
02 Evenly spaced dark lines
Normally caused by paper-feed problems. If paired with slightly lighter lines, it is most likely a nozzle problem. Also try alignment.
03 Ink markings on the sheet
A paper feed problem most often found with fine-art papers, and caused by the paper ‘kicking up’ and catching the printhead.
04 Marks repeating down the page
Caused by stray ink accumulating on the rollers. Most commonly seen near the edges of the page.
05 Colour cast across an image
If you’re sure that your colour management settings are correct, it’s likely that an ink tank has run out and needs replacing.
06 Evenly spaced white lines
This indicates either paper feed or alignment problems, or simply that many nozzles aren’t firing at all.
07 Single tone (often black) lines
A good indicator that your printhead may have died or is slowly dying. This seems to affect Epson printers in particular.
08 Ink splashes
This can be caused by too much ink building up on the printer’s parking pad or blocked printhead nozzles.
