New Panasonic cameras we’d like to see in 2013

    Panasonic GF5 announced

    10. Panasonic GX2 | Back to basics

It’s hard to see where Panasonic can go in 2013. It already seems to be getting as much out of Micro Four Thirds technically as the format can offer, but that doesn’t mean that improvements aren’t possible.

The G-series DSLR lookalikes, the GH movie/stills cameras and the novice-friendly GF-series look settled… which just leaves the GX1.

Designed to claw back some credibility with enthusiasts when the GF-series went mass-market, the GX1 could still do with an extra push to separate it from the rest.

Fujifilm’s proved that classical camera design still sells, so what if the GX2 had the classic control layout – a shutter speed dial on the top, an aperture ring around the lens and an electronic viewfinder to round it off?

Too difficult? Not Panasonic’s style? Not really, because they’ve made one already – the magnificent L1, back in 2006.

Downsize that with mirrorless internals, put in a modern sensor, add a high-res EVF and watch it fly!
