Should I pay for hosting my photography website?

Photography websites: should I pay for a hosting?

If you choose to run your blog through one of the many free blogging platforms such as WordPress and Blogger, you won’t need to pay for hosting, However, there are limitations to these sites, and you may therefore want to consider paying for hosting.

These reasons include if you want to sell your work or run paid-for adverts on your photography website, since many free platforms have restrictions on this kind of activity.

There’s also a greater degree of customisation to be enjoyed when you go self-hosting. You can also have a greater amount of webspace.

However, it’s also true that it’s more complicated to run a hosted website, and it costs money. Most free platforms offer a generous amount of space – WordPress for instance offers 3GB as standard, which should be more than enough for the average blogger.

If you want to run a simple photography blog, it’s probably not worth paying for hosting, but if you want to do something a little bit more advanced, be sure to explore your options.
