Black and white photo effects: how Camera Raw can make pro-quality mono
Custom black and white photo effects for coastal shots
Our image as it originally appeared
Coastal scenes typically comprise green/blue sea, blue sky and some yellow/brown foreground, be it beach or pebble, so the sliders we want to focus on are Greens, Aquas, Blues, Oranges and Yellows.
For a dark, dramatic sky, we opted to set Blues at -100. Setting Yellows to -100 here darkens the pebbles and also restores a bit more detail in the waves.
Setting Oranges to -40 darkens the beach further, increasing the tonal separation between beach, waves and sky, and setting Aquas to +85 lightens the more distant water.
You can optionally increase Clarity to enhance the midtone contrast.
