9 secrets to using a tripod like a pro
4 Best foot forward
Pull out the most substantial sections of the legs first; use the spindliest sections only as a last resort. Carbon fibre tripods lack the mass of their alloy relatives, but offer chunkier legs for the same weight.
5 On the level
Rather than correcting wonky horizons later, slip a spirit level into the hotshoe of your camera to ensure a level horizon first time.
6 Collar it
If your lens has a tripod collar, fit that to the tripod rather than the camera, otherwise the weight of the lens can put undue stress on the mounting plate.
