Eye of America

Dennis Manarchy is responsible for a fascinating project called Vanishing Cultures (view the video) in which he is traveling around the USA to document the country’s rich variety in cultures. He will do this using a 35-foot-long camera that has to be transported around on a truck. As you do.

Manarchy will actually be inside the camera – which has been dubbed Eye of America – in order to take pictures. The negatives produced will measure 6×4.5 feet and the resulting portraits will be printed at a staggering two-stories in height!

In a large country renowned for big cars, big food and big cities, the super-size images are probably quite apt.

The video details how the camera works.
